Co-Founder and Recovery Ambassador

Mike Sorrentino, widely known as Mike "The Situation" from his time on MTV's Jersey Shore, is the co-founder of The Archangel Centers and one of the most visible recovery advocates in the United States. His story is not a brochure version of recovery. He lived addiction in public, faced legal consequences in public, and built his sobriety in public. Today he maintains over 10 years of active recovery and channels that lived experience into the program he built.

Lauren Sorrentino

Co-Founder, Family and Alumni Programs

Lauren Sorrentino co-founded The Archangel Centers and built its family programming track from the ground up. She stood on the family side of recovery for years before Archangel existed, watching a system that largely told the people who love someone in treatment to wait by the phone. That experience shaped the program she designed: one that integrates family care throughout treatment rather than bolting it on as an afterthought.

Our Story

The program our founders wished existed

Mike Sorrentino lived addiction in public. The fall happened on television, in tabloids, in a federal courthouse. And the climb back happened the same way: visible, documented, real. He maintains over 10 years of active recovery. He knows what it took to get sober. He also knows what the treatment system got wrong when he was trying.

Lauren stood on the other side of it. She navigated what every family member navigates: a system that largely treats the person in treatment and tells everyone else to wait. She saw the gap between what family support looks like in most programs and what it actually needs to look like to produce lasting recovery.

Together they built Archangel Centers to be the program they wished existed: not a 30-day disappearing act that sends someone home to the same environment, not a system where you get sober but nobody addresses what broke you. A real outpatient program, in your community, with licensed clinicians who specialize in dual diagnosis and a leadership team that has personally been through it.

Archangel Centers operates in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, serving Monmouth County and adults across New Jersey. Our programs span Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and standard Outpatient (OP) care, with Way House sober living and a Detox Concierge service that coordinates medical detox into our programs. Our Charlotte, North Carolina location is opening soon, bringing the same continuum of care to Mecklenburg County.

The Mission

We have been there. That changes everything.

When someone who has personally navigated addiction sits across from a person in early recovery, the conversation is different. The language is right. The understanding is real. It is not empathy performed from a textbook. It is recognition.

Lived experience is the reason clients trust this program fast enough to do the actual work. But it is not a substitute for clinical excellence. Mike says it directly: lived experience opens the door, licensed clinicians carry the work.

Archangel Centers holds both. A recovery story grounded enough to earn trust immediately. A clinical team, led by Dr. Justin Skolnick, DO, that delivers CBT, DBT, trauma-focused care, MAT coordination, and integrated dual diagnosis treatment. Neither alone is enough. Together, they are the program.

What Makes Us Different

Three things most centers get wrong

Lived experience plus clinical rigor

Most centers have one or the other. Our founders' recovery story shapes how we treat people. Our licensed clinicians bring the evidence-based therapies (CBT, DBT, MAT when indicated, trauma-focused care) that produce real outcomes. You get both, not a trade-off.

Dual diagnosis as the default

Roughly half of people in addiction treatment also live with a mental health condition. At Archangel, we treat both together as the standard of care, not as a separate add-on program. Addressing one without the other is how people relapse.

Outpatient by design

Outpatient care keeps you connected to your real life: family, work, community. For most adults that produces better long-term recovery than disappearing into a facility for 30 days and returning to the same environment with nothing changed.
